LATVIA is a state in Northern Europe which has borders with Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus. Across the Baltic Sea is located Sweden. Latvia covers around 64 thousands square kilometers. The latvians are part of Baltic people. The only official language in Latvia is Latvian, which has many similarities with Lithuanian language. In fact Latvian and Lithuanian languages are the last two Baltic languages of the Indo-European family. Latvia as a state is a unitary parliamentary republic with internal division of 118 municipalities. The largest city and the capital as well is Riga. Latvia is one of the least-populous countries of the European Union - its population is less than 2.2 million.
